PROOF
Science is not out to prove anything! The purpose of science is to tentatively support or reject ideas with existing evidence. Every hypothesis and theory in science is on the edge of error and is therefore testable....such as the various ideas of evolution.
"Proof" is a word that does not fit into the framework of scientific procedures. Ther term proof implies some sort of finality, an absolute or ultimate answer that when finally determined will be unchanging for eternity. Every hypothesis or theory in science is testable and on the edge of error. Scientists must treat their theories with humility, and fully admit without appology that any theory might be wrong. But as long as a theory is supported by sufficient evidence, then it stands as tentatively correct until evidence shows otherwise.
It is unfortunate that so many people have a greater need to "believe" rather than a need to be skeptical. All students at universities should attend classes with a certain level of skepticism. "It is important that students bring a certain ragamuffin, barefoot irreverence to their studies; they are not here to worship what is known but to question it." (Bronowski, 1973)
This fundamental idea, question authority, should apply to everyone about everything. No human being has the knowledge of God, and those that claim that, are charlatans. There is no absolute knowledge.
